WWII Airsoft Gun Replicas

February 14th, 2011 Comments off

WWII marked a period of revolutionary transformations in gun technology. Up until that time, most guns still resembled their older muzzle-loading predecessors. Trench warfare had been used extensively in World War I and most guns manufactured during that time had no place in the mechanized battlefields of WWII. It was because of a need to fill a gap in contemporary gun technology that the guns of WWII emerged. The submachine gun was born and so were many other improvements made. Some airsoft gun enthusiasts have come to embrace this period of innovation by seeking to replicate its spirit with authentic airsoft gun replicas of WWII firearms. The availability of such airsoft guns tends to be limited in comparison to other genres such as modern weapons. The following are examples we have seen:

The M28 Double Eagle (WWII Pistol Replica):

M28 Airsoft Gun

M28 Airsoft Gun

This is a WWII styled airsoft pistol with a 25rd capacity magazine. The gun is spring powered and is made of plastic construction. It is 11” in overall length and is actually quite large for a pistol. The barrel rail adds a unique target pistol look to it. Unlike most airsoft pistols, cocking requires pulling a plug at the rear of the barrel rather than the usual slide. It shoots at about 200 FPS. It would make an interesting addition to any pistol collector’s set.

The M37F Double Eagle (Skorpion VZ. 61 Replica):

M37F Airsoft Gun

M37F Airsoft Gun

If nothing else, this airsoft gun should be acquired for its unique design. The M37F by Double Eagle features a wire folding stock and a 25rd capacity magazine. The bolt handle seen is pulled back to cock the gun. It measures 11” in length with the stock folded and 19” fully extended, is spring powered, and consists of plastic construction. It shoots at about 220 FPS. The Skorpion VZ. 61, which it replicates, was first manufactured in Czechoslovak during the early 1960s. Although originally intended for security forces, the VZ. 61 found mainstream use in the Czechoslovak Army. This machine pistol was the result of post-war innovations of the submachine gun. However, the assault rifle eventually became a more favorable direction in gun design following WWII.

The M40 Double Eagle (MP40 Replica):

M40 Airsoft Gun

M40 Airsoft Gun

This 28” (fully extended) spring powered MP40 replica from Double Eagle represents one of the more inexpensive options for buying this gun. The MP40 is widely copied for use in WWII recreations and airsoft MILSIM. AGM makes a full metal AEG model with a 330 FPS BB velocity rating. The example we used shot at approximately 220 FPS and was made of plastic. The lever handle on the side is pulled back to cock the gun and the stock can be seen in the folded position. The MP40 is truly the hallmark of German WWII submachine gun engineering. Its limited use in the war is one of the reasons that historians point out as the beginning of the end for Hitler’s regime. Popularized in many WWII themed films and video games, the MP40 is undoubtedly a first choice for many airsofters seeking the excitement of WWII replicas.
