Got blowgun? We were recently surprised to discover that our main airsoft tactical gear manufacturer and supplier Fidragon also carries a full line of blowguns. Figuring that our customers might be interested, we decided to purchase a few and try them out. We finally settled for a short 24” model labeled as the “Shark Shooter” in Fidragon’s catalog. The following is a breakdown of our first impressions.

Shark Shooter
Out of the package our blowgun seemed to offer a good deal for the price. It came with a variety of different darts which we will analyze individually later on. The manual, although sparse, was in legible English which is considered a plus for Chinese products in this price range. The sling was a nice extra that came in handy when we had to carry the Shooter around outdoors or set it aside while retrieving darts.

Ready for Action
Darts:

Sharpwire Darts
We were given a large number of these with enough spares to completely replace the ones already in use. They are fairly accurate and shorter than the spearhead darts. We were getting ¼” penetration in plywood with them.

Spearhead Darts
Although longer and heavier than the sharpwire darts, we still got decent penetration in our field tests with these. They make a great hunting choice as the expanded tip makes them less likely to come loose off the target. We were given no spares on these.

Spike Darts
Short and stubby, these spike darts weren’t generally impressive despite their wicked appearance. We couldn’t get them to stick firmly enough in anything but carboard. Even with these shortcomings, we still think they add something to the overall aesthitic appeal of our mounted aresenal.

Stun Darts
Well what can we say? They look like little orange fish… which may explain why Fidragon produces a model outfitted exclusively with this type of dart dubbed the “Guppy”. A shot at a neighborhood cat, however, elicited the desired effect. These fish bite.
Conclusion:

Bull's Eye
Our shot tests proved to be impressive. This little blowgun can pack a punch! We found that following Fidragon’s advice to use “short, sharp bursts of air” worked best when launching darts. Our accuracy, from a distance of 20 feet, was mediocre at best. However, we remain confident that we could achieve much better results with practice. If you are looking quick, inexpensive fun, you should definitely consider blowguning.
